Longest flight ever. Our first. I sat sandwiched in between an 8 year old bubbling with excitement and a 3 year old sobbing because sheΓ’β¬β’d left her beloved blankie behind. Long day ahead.

for the Trifecta weekend challenge: This weekend we are giving you three variations on a prompt. We need you to give us 33 words back, and 2 of those words must be either “cheap flights,” “sandwiched in” or “spectacularly clean.” This weekend, your piece must also be non-fiction (poetry or prose). And yes, we reserve the right to call your mothers and former lovers to ask for verification on your tales.
True story – first plane ride for all three of us – coming to Alaska to join hubbymoose/daddymoose who had come ahead by 2 weeks. There have been better flights since.
Must have been one memorable ride π
Oh, no! One of mommy’s worst travel nightmares!
How could you forget the blankie?!? awww π
I’ve only traveled with a child of mine, once, and she did great.
But I’ve sat next to ones that didn’t. Very relatable, barbara.
pssst! I was 8. Heheheheh. And loved every minute of it – cept for the screaming. We didn’t purposely forget the blanket, it got lost in the shuffle and it was returned to us via mail. π She survived… duct tape solves a multitude of woes, after all.. MUHAHAHAHA
Just kidding. π
What a way to start a new life! I have to admit, though, the comment from your daughter above totally cracked me up. π
Being sandwiched in on plane rides. The pits. But duct tape. Yay!
Brave mom!
For some reason, I thought you’d lived in Alaska your whole life – How many years has it been?
So thanks to my ever astute daughta, I fixed the typo of her age at the time we moved to AK. There are 5 years between the girls . . . so . . .
And, yes, it only seems like we have lived in AK forever, but we started out in Columbus, Ohio. Lived there the first 28 years of my life – then AK for the past 34. (add ’em up . . . I’ll be 63 in January) π
Alaska is truly home now.
I don’t fly often, but I’ve been fairly lucky in not being subjected to obnoxious fellow passengers.
Sounds like a flight to remember, even if at the time you’d have liked to forget it! I misread your daughter’s comment and thought she said that she did purposely forget the blankie–like she hoped to avoid having to leave if you guys didn’t have it-that’s something I would’ve tried!
I passed on an opportunity to spend the summer working at Mt McKinley–biggest mistake of my life!
My three year old left her favorite snuggle at the hotel this summer, just before we took our 30-hour trip back to Hong Kong. It was not a pleasant trip.
