He was a crusty old curmudgeon
Set in his ways
Happy was not a word to describe
How he spent his days
Until
The first grandbaby
Softened his core
Love at first sight

Pic is of hubbymoose – taken this past summer on one of our take the grands fishing days. Love him and love the way he loves them.
the Trifecta challenge this week is . . . well, open to interpretation. 33 words using a diagram of the earth’s core, mantel and crust.
Thanks muchly to the Trifecta editors for making me their first Featured Trifectan. I am honored.
It is amazing what soft hearts are inside those crusty curmudgeons!
Great lines very well composed
Aww very sweet!
Ah yes, those grandchildren can melt the most frigid hearts. “Crusty old curmudgeons” male or female. 🙂

Well said. There’s an expectation of feelings with the old school, set in their ways, populace. That goes out the window in a situation like that 🙂 Thanks for sharing this!
Oh, this is lovely! Reminds me of my father.
Those babies have a way of softening even the most weathered ones, don’t they? Love your take on this….
Perfect! This reminds me of my dad. My kids made him soft! Love it!
Oh my gosh, this so reminds me of my father! Watching him become a doting grandfather made up for his lack of proper fathering. Love the emotion it elicits.
I love this poem. And you provided a lovely picture.
Love watching these tough old fellows melt in the presence of children. Bet he’s the type who will be slipping the grandkids a five dollar bill for the candy store and then, with a wink, telling them not to let their Mom know where the money came from. 🙂
Lovely, warm writing, as usual. Thanks.
Aw, this is so sweet! It’s funny how the grandbabies can turn their hearts to goo 🙂 I enjoyed reading your featured Trifectan piece – great idea there.
Awwwwww…..So nice! So sweet. Such a nice piece, Barbara. Loved it. 🙂 Warmed my heart. Made me smile at least 🙂
I loved this! Grandbabies can melt even the hardest heart. Curmudgeon is one of my favorite words.
Loved this poem. And this is exactly my dad then he met his first grandchil, my daughter, and he was different from that moment ion. I watched it happen first hand!
So you found his weakness! (: Great piece!
Ah! I absolutely love this one Barbara!
Really nice! Interesting where you took the prompt. Really imaginative.
I loved this…and agree, nothing more core melting than grand babies .
touching – and the perfect way to break through hard shells.
So sweet! “Love the way he loves them” really says it all. 🙂
This is so incredibly sweet. What a lovely sentiment, Barbara!
Very sweet. I bet it wasn’t that hard to melt : )
