so hubby is off to Anchortown to pick up his buddy from Ohio. He has just called from about 30 miles outside town to let me know he has made it through the mountains safely. Not sure what they are really going to do after T’s arrival. They don’t have a place to stay – hotel rates are HORRENDOUS right now – it is June, you see, and that means TOURISTS to fleece – right along with the locals if they are foolish enough to stay in? a hotel.

Instead, hubby has blow-up mattresses and sleeping bags in the back of the van – he forgot pillows, so while we were doing our weekly grandbaby shopping trip this morning before he left town, we picked up a couple of pillows the grands will like – batman and dora. heh.

Hubby and T have known each other since like the fifth grade. They followed different paths through school and afterward, but they always maintained a kinship. T was the best man at our wedding 37 years ago.

They plan to attend Sunday Market in the morning. Hubby is also armed with info and maps to the Three Barons Renaissance Fair. They may also stop at Crow Creek Mine in Girdwood to pan for gold. Not sure when I will see them. But I have Monday off (because I have to attend a conference the following Saturday) so will get to visit for a bit then.

T will be here until the 22nd. He and hubby will have a grand time – most of which I will not be able to share because of my work schedule. But I imagine that dinner times I will see both of them. heh.

Have a great weekend, everyone.

I’ll try to get in here soon to play catch up – honest! In the meantime . . .

enjoy this new little guy:

moose1Β

Pretty new – looks to be only a few days old – not purple – they come out sort of orange. I looked up from my desk at work (yes – I am at my desk!!!! we hired a receptionist!!! yay) and had to dig for my camera quick – s/he only held still for a couple of shots, though. Got scared up to the window by the big bad paving guys with their noisy machinery.

That is milk foamed up all around the muzzle. Looks like someone’s afternoon snack got interrupted.

and, check out how big my “little” guy is getting – this one will be taller than “Gramps” in no time. πŸ˜‰

Local paper with a priceless tongue in cheek look at Alaskan tourists and their misconceptions. You’ll have to register to read one of my favorite columnists. If you’d rather not register and still want to read it, email me and I may let you in on my password information. πŸ˜‰ (or leave a comment)

Even our mobile homes are igloos??? πŸ˜‰

Yeah, I know – the quality of the photo isn’t all that great. It’s actually a scan of a post card we printed FROM a photo we took several years ago. We were talking with the fellow who makes/made these and asked if we could take the picture of the building which was on the trailer. I told him my tag line and he insisted on Alaskanizing it that much more by hooking up an OLD beater truck to the trailer. We live in Alaska – we make our own fun.

Another absolutely gorgeous day in Alaska, folks. Of course, with the heat (give us a break – 75 degrees is H.O.T. to Alaskans – and well above normal for this time of year, btw) and the wind comes the dreaded wild fires. There are several burning in the state right now and there is a burn ban in place. Bad news for Memorial Day fishermen/campers, also, as they are not permitted even to have a bonfire. The authorities will be busy, I imagine.

Hubby moose has been busy since Friday holding a “moving sale” at our former business location. He and some of his cronies got together a bunch of junk stuff and have been selling all weekend. They intend to continue tomorrow.

And, what, you may be asking yourselves, will the moose be doing tomorrow? Why, thank you for asking. I will be continuing on the great house cleaning venture. Hubby moose’s best buddy is coming for a visit from Ohio in two weeks. So far the bathroom has had a thorough cleaning and the kitchen is just about finished. Next, the living room and then I will set up the roll-away bed and make his room ready.

Why, yes. I did say roll-away bed. While we love to have company, we try not to make this too comfortable. We have been taken advantage of in the past – an unannounced 30 day (THIRTY DAYS!!!! UNANNOUNCED!!!!) visit by kin of hubby moose comes to mind. πŸ˜‰ So, a roll-away it is. And, it’s actually quite comfy, btw. He won’t be miserable or anything. lol

We’ll see how I’m feeling – may just jump on the motocycle and head out for a spin tomorrow.

We’ll see.

as mentioned in Lessa’s blog?(number 5 in the list)

We were driving through Anchorage – sitting at the light at Dimond (yes, that is how it is spelled – it is a man’s name) and Old Seward Highways – when we caught sight of Bill. We knew that was his name because of his sign. But before I could get the camera out he was off and panhandling a car in the near lane and in front of us.

So, the light changes and he heads back our way with the sign DOWN! Bill, show us your sign, I yelled and snapped as we moved – so it’s a bit blurry:

Rump roast anyone?

This is the shot I had thought to enter in Brookston’s Meat Challenge, but it was on the other computer and I hadn’t gotten it to this one yet, so went with the full on moose that “just happened” to cross by me as I was leaving work the other day. πŸ˜‰ All of these shots were taken in Anchorage.

ahhhhhhhhhhhlaska!

Have a great weekend, everyone.

bless you. πŸ˜‰ heh

so the anchorage paper is calling for haiku about salmon – and while I was “busy” sitting at the desk today and unable to do my work in my office, I began doodling them out. Sent them in – here are a couple:
