October has fairly slipped away from me because of all the busy-ness at work.

I generally say something during October about breast cancer awareness month. It used to be that I had my mammograms in October, but now they are done in July when my “bosom buddy” (pun intended) and I drive to Anchorage together and have lunch and then our mams (in separate rooms, but upholding each other as we await the word to go home or have further tests)

Breast cancer runs in my family. I lost an aunt to it in 1972. I lost a cousin to it three years or so ago. I try to take care of my breasts – monthly self-exam, physician exam yearly, and yearly mammogram. Yup, we’re all about the touchy-feely here in moosie-breast-land.

Last year I discovered Pink Auctions and then lost the link. Tonight curiosity got the better of me and I went seeking the site again.

Yesterday I wore the necklace I bought from one of the artists during last year’s auctions. I hope you will go and check out the page. I am also hoping they get a few more auction items up. If you ping them and request, I’m sure more will be forthcoming.

in the meantime, be nice to “the girls” as Less would say.

:moose:

sometimes you just have to pass them on:

Babs Miller was bagging some early potatoes for me. I noticed a small boy, delicate of bone and feature, ragged but clean, hungrily apprising a basket of freshly picked green peas.

I paid for my potatoes but was also drawn to the display of fresh green peas. I am a pushover for creamed peas and new potatoes. Pondering the peas, I couldn’t help overhearing the conversation between Mr.Miller and the ragged boy next to me.

Inspiration Challenge: Brilliant Grass

It’s still early yet – as you can see, the only brilliant grass is next to the house where it can bask in the warmth of the sun. As soon as the rest of the snow in the yard melts we will be raking and getting rid of the old white/brown stuff you see there so the new can grow in better.

Happy Easter, everyone. We have a partially overcast day – temps are in the low 30’s so it’s a wee bit chilly still. Sounds like a typical Alaskan Easter to me. Hope your day is a blessed one.

He is risen!

He is risen, indeed!

STORIES OF SADNESS – STORIE DI TRISTEZZA

The stories these walls could tell
of days long, long ago
territorial days
long before statehood days
childhood and old age days
laughter heard among the clan
happiness and sadness tears
run freely – together
farewell, old house
you with the haunting emptiness
boards gone missing – gaptoothed windows
tell me your stories, be they happy or sad
but tell me your stories, true.

Sunset and Soul

Amended: I cannot seem to get Odilia’s page to accept my entry  (got it!) – so we’ll just let YOU enjoy the photo. Have a wonderful weekend – don’t forget to set the clocks BACKWARD. OOPS – make that set your clocks FORWARD. (sigh – I hate to lose that hour!)
