Whether or not we like it, weather plays an integral part in anyone’s visit to Alaska. And, it figured, for most of the time that T was visiting it was cool and damp or downright raining. There were a few nicer days, but they were not many.

Until the day after he arrived back home in Ohio, that is. Yup, today it dawned sunnily with bright blue skies and fluffy white clouds. Mt. Redoubt stood out in all of her blue/white glory, a sight which was hidden for the most part the enTIRE time he was here. Sorry, friend.

Last night the wind came up and we even had to turn on the heat for a bit to take the chill off. Well, hubby got cold. I was just fine – hand me a sweater and I am hunky-dory. It spat out some rain, but not too much. Apparently the?wind pushed the clouds out of the way and we were?rewarded with the aforementioned sunny, blue skies.

Of course, NOW those clouds are coming back in and the wind is picking back up, so we may see some more rain later today.

That’s summer time in Alaska. 😉 (more…)

idea I had for Brookston’s “Oversized” challenge:

dish1?

check out the alien behind the dish – btw, dish tv anyone? heh. Younger grandgirl said, “Gramma! If they turned that big thing over it could look like a whatdoyoucallit? (spaceship?) spaceship! yeah, a spaceship for the Owlien (she cannot say A-lien – it comes out Owlien) on the wall.” Creative little tyke, isn’t she?

In other news . . .? my face feels like it is on fire. It’s a weird sensation. Started Sunday as I drove home from worship services – started just below my lip and then progressed up toward and into my left ear. Ladybug and Lessa both thought it might be the beginnings of Bells Palsy. Ladybug has had it twice so she knows how it feels.

I’m not sure – and haven’t been to the doctor, nor do I plan to unless it gets worse. So far, the only real symptom is the feeling in my cheek and around my mouth that I am on fire. It’s a stinging sensation – like the nerves are pulsing or something. Hard to describe.

I saw my chiro doc today and she really moved my neck. Says she has treated Bells before and it sometimes begins to go away after an adjustment. But she agrees that not much?can be done for it – it is something that simply has to go away – if it is even what I have.

In the meantime I have not had any drooping of my face, so that is a good thing. The?chiro doc did say that sometimes that never comes on. And, if you will go read the list of symptoms you will see a lot of?interesting little things. I like the little inconsistencies:

General Symptoms:

Nose runs
Nose is constantly stuffed?

Oh, well, it is too much fun. We shall see what we shall see. 😉

A Clock ?

Scavenger Hunt Challenge #2, Week 11 of 13
Week beginning 6.10.06
Photos Due by 6.16.06

BONUS POINTS AVAILABLE:

1 pt. if the clock is an outdoor clock.
3 pts. if the clock is showing the hour.
5 pts. if the clock is showing Noon (or midnight).

?I tried hard for noon – even leaving work a bit early for lunch. Howsomever . . . the drippiness of the day began to get harder and soon I was standing in a downright downpour and shivering to boot. Not to mention the camera was getting wet – dinna want that! So – it’s a moment or two BEFORE? noon.

This is our fair city’s new town clock. Posted in a place that some think is town central – but we are so spread out that there really isn’t such a thing. It’s just a way for the town criers to make themselves feel better. Crafted by students and teacher at Kenai Peninsula College, the local campus of University of Alaska Anchorage.

Those are metal salmon swimming up a metal river. Kenai is home to the Kenai River which is home to the world’s largest king salmon ever taken on rod and reel. The record King weighed in at over 97 pounds – AFTER having sat in the bed of a truck for most of the day drying out. Imagine the weight fresh off the river! It is surmised to have been well over 100 pounds. Les Anderson was the fisherman of the day – week and decade. He is gone now, but the legend lives on – as does the stuffed fish which is displayed proudly at the Soldotna Visitors Center.

There – a bit of history on our area.

Hitchcock, that is . . .

Good eeeeev’ning . . . Oh, man! could he send a chill down your spine or what?

anyway – hope you are all well. Hubby and his buddy . . . it is like listening to a coupla little kids, I tell ya. Well, that is partially because they have known each other since 3rd grade. An awful lot of “remember whens” pepper their speech.

We drove through Old Town Kenai this morning after breakfast. Well, actually, we started by going to my workplace where I introduced T to my boss. Told him a little about the agency and the work that we all do there (and impressed him, btw). Then we went to the Kenai Visitors and Cultural Center to see the museum display and the summer art show. T was very impressed with all of the old stuff and the stuffed animals on display and the like.

After that we drove through Old Town and pointed out the Russian Orthodox Church and my favorite little building:

ruins2

which I have shown here several times.

Then I was dropped at home and they took off for some boy time together. Went out and visited a friend of hubby’s and I don’t know what all else they did – might be a good thing I don’t, too. 😉

The mail came and I received my new Turbo Jam dvds from Beach Body. Now, I had already done one of the workouts from The Biggest Loser dvd, the Strength and Sculpt portion, but that was this morning and this was this afternoon. So, I opened the TJ packaging and read through the information and plugged in the beginner dvd and did the Learn and Burn portion.

gonna feel those abs tomorrow. Between the two . . . 😉 yep, we’re having fun, now.

Got cleaned up again and the boys came home – “want to go for a ride?” – and so we did. Out to the cannery where hubby moose and I lived our first winter in Alaska, and then to the one next to it, which is now a series of shops and restaurants and theatre and the like. It’s a bit early in the season – not all of the shops are opened, but we did wander through the historic buildings and take in the ambience. Took some shots of the river – will download and then upload tomorrow – and the surrounding buildings.

Drove a little way down to the beach and watched a set net – maintained by the Kenaitze tribe – put back into the river. They had taken a couple of salmon out of the net and were getting it back out for the next set. (thus the term set net) Talked with a fellow from New Zealand who was so excited to have seen the net pulled in and set back out. It’s a joy to meet excited and interested tourists.

After a short drive to pick up dinner (not sure exactly why I went grocery shopping Saturday!!!) and then home. Now the boys are out and about again.

I’m glad they are having a good time. It is back to work for me in the morning – only to see them each evening until Sunday when we will be able to share part of the day together. Then I will have to work again all next week because of a presentation I am giving Monday and Tuesday. He leaves from Anchorage on Thursday the 22nd – they will likely drive up Wednesday the 21st.

Well, someone has to work, right? Right. 😉

have a great evening everyone –
