The 100 Word Challenge this week is given by guest poster Leisa Ladell. Her word is Resistance, and I resisted as long as I could, but finally Stanley Hanklesmann came to my aid and provided the next scene to his story.

Many thanks again to VV for this weekly challenge – and to the writers providing her a hiatus.

Stanley continued his morning walk. He bent, picked a dandelion holding it towards Millie sitting on her stoop near the end of the street.

“Do you like butter?” Stanley smiled and set the flower on the step below the timid child. “I will leave it for you. I hope you have a beautiful day.”

Millie flinched as he placed the flower near her. He could hear the man of the house grumbling over the sound of the TV to Millie’s mother in the darkened house.

Her resistance to men was understandable, but Stanley hoped to win her over with patience.

This week VV’s guest poster was AuroraLee. Her chosen challenge was GAME.

Two little girls busily bent over their task. It was tough work; Jenna’s lines weren’t very straight and Dottie’s numbers were often backwards.

“Here, take the yellow chalk, Dottie. I used it last time and I know it’s your favorite.”

The girls giggled as they finished their diagram and reached for stones.

Stanley’s shadow fell over the girls and they giggled again.

“Good morning, girls.”

“Good morning, Mr. Hanklesmann.”

Taking out his yellow handkerchief Stanley polished a medium sized stone. He winked at each girl, stepped back a step and tossed the stone with great care into the first square.

Your turn – do YOU have game? Join us in the 100 Word Challenge.

This week’s challenge is “Perfection” and I’d like to thank VV for allowing me a chance to guest post for her. Of course, I chose the word and it has taken me until now to write my own piece.

Stanley chose a carnation and placed it into his lapel. He brushed his shoulders one last time and checked his teeth in the mirror. His best brown suit was spotless. The trousers were creased meticulously.

He gave his wingtips a final buff against his calf. Opening the top drawer of his chifforobe Stanley chose a yellow-checkered handkerchief for his pocket. Brilliantine for his sparse hair and a final comb-over drew his eyes once again to the mirror.

It was time for his daily constitutional. Stanley Hanklesmann placed his bowler at a precise angle and went out to face his world.

Stole this from my daughter . . . she finds the best-est stuffs!

All great thoughts of how to unleash the creative beast that lies within.

Which is what I have been doing with The Artist’s Way. And the above is my synchronicity for the week. So, this is week number 6 check in time.

This week? Not so great on the morning pages – 4/7 days completed with another 2 begun and left along and the 7th not even attempted.

Summer in Alaska . . . . wanderlust in my soul. Had a tough week at the office so took a bit of mental health leave. It was interrupted by the process server alluded to in my previous fictional piece for 100 Words. I was not a really happy camper when I went to work Friday. Ended up leaving mid-afternoon to complet my MH time.

Wanderlust struck big time. Picked up hubbymoose and we drove 90 miles (one way) to buy 2 loaves of multi-grain bread from Two Sisters Bakery in Homer. Yeah, we’re nuts like that. It was SOOOOO good to get out of town and just drive. We talked a bit – but mostly just loved being on the road.

Took pictures – of course – and walked on the beach – went to a different location and yelled at some men for harrassing the wildlife – eagles – sheesh! Some wanna-be adults!

I am claiming that as my Artist’s Date, btw. Even though hubbymoose came along for the ride (and to pay for the bread) he understood my need to walk off down the beach without his company and didn’t even complain when he got cold from the wind. Simply rolled up the windows in the car while I went out to take pictures of the eagles.

All I can say is AHHHHHHLASKA!

and on to week #7.

Thanks, VV – hope that thumb is healing.

I call this EAGLE – on a STEEK! (any Jeff Dunham fans out there?)

This started out one way and ended up this – after a knock came on my door today. Here’s my take on Velvet Verbosity’s 100 Word Challenge: Compliments

The cafe wasn’t crowded at 11, which is why Donna chose it. It was a quiet spot where people gave her privacy.

Donna heard a man clearing his throat. She looked up as he smiled at her.

“That’s a great book. Enjoying it?”

Donna mumbled yes.

“I like your glasses – those are the rage these days. Look great on you.”

“Thanks, I’m trying to read here. Don’t mean to be rude, but”

“No problem, you’re Donna Jones, right?”

“Yes, why?”

“You’ve been served.”

Yellow paperwork landed next to her cup as Donna glared at his back.

“I hate process servers!”
