Grapes
Peaches
Crab

Kendra checked off each item as she placed them into her cart.

Nuts
Bon-bons
Wine

Check – check – and check.

“That’s quite a list.”

Kendra jumped at the sound of her friend’s voice. “Stacey! I didn’t see you standing there.”

“Throwing a party, Ken?”

“Yeah, of sorts, Stacey. Mark comes home from work tonight. He’s been on the platform for six weeks. God! I get so lonely when he’s gone. He treats me like a queen when he’s home. These are some of our special foods.”

“Geez, you’re blushing, Ken. It makes you look sweet. Have fun tonight.”

Lance and LeeRoy have chosen Peel Me a Grape as the song for this week. A number of Alaska’s oil workers are gone for weeks at a time – away from their families for 2 – 3 – even 6 weeks, then coming home for only a week or two. Some families survive very well. Others not so much. People do what they can do to survive.

My Blog Can Beat Up Your Blog

She wore bright, flowing clothes and wrought silver bangles; her hair was long and loosely held back by a silk scarf.

I entered her wagon fueled by curiosity only a 13 year old boy could feel. God, she was beautiful.

“Come in, young man. Let me hold your hand,”

I shivered as she touched me, her bracelets cold against my skin.

“What is it you seek, sir?”

“I, I,” my voice broke. “Dammit! Oh, sorry, Gypsy.”

“No matter, little man. Soon all will mature. Try again?”

“A, a kiss! That’s what I want.”

“$20 sir.”

Best money I ever spent!

As VV winds down from a couple of very busy weeks, she has challenged us with the word WROUGHT. The above is my take on using the word. Where is yours?

At summer’s end the house had been razed. The girls chatted.

“Janey, what will you say you did this summer?”

“Just that I am so glad to be friends with you, especially now.”

Our weekend challenge from those novel trifecta editors was to finish what we started with the July 27th challenge. I had started a young adult mystery. As you can (I hope) imagine, LOTS must have gone on in between those 33 opening words and the above 33 closers.

Toured the Crime Lab
Alaska’s newest and best
Scientific minds

It’s time for Haiku Friday with Lou and I was in Anchorage for a series of meetings. Got home in time to write and post. Yay.

The meetings were held at the brand new Alaska State Crime Lab, which was just opened in June. We were tickled to be given a mini tour. Unfortunately most of the staff were at their own trainings, so not available for questions, but we enjoyed admiring all the new and shiny things. Great minds working there.

It looks like home
Where my heart is
Smells like home
Where my heart is fed
Seems like home
When my heart returns
It’s HOME with you and
The love we share together

Your challenge from trifecta, should you choose to accept it, is to write 33-333 words on HOME – as in “home is where the heart is.”

These are my words – where are yours?
