to have a listening ear sometimes . . .

we actually learned a bit about that at our staff meeting yesterday when a coworker presented on compassion fatigue. Very interesting topic.

One of the main points that I heard was to use your coworkers to debrief if needed – and to listen to them when they need to do the same.

I’ve never found that hard to do where I work. And that is always a good thing.

Sorry folks – don’t have any more than that for now – maybe later. You all have a wonderful Thursday – next week is Thanksgiving! Do you have the bird out of the freezer yet?

Looks like Lisa will be having pheasant!

I recall workshops on Burnout but not compassion fatigue. Wonder if they are one and the same.

Got you in an rss feed so maybe I can keep caught up if I learn how to use it. Other than this feature I don’t like the new IE7 browser. 🙄

that’s a great question and one that came up during the presentation. They are actually different things – people can recover from burnout, but compassion fatigue most often ends careers. People who suffer from it find they cannot work in the profession any longer.

It is recognized by the Medical people as a real condition/disorder/whatever they want to call it – and I am told it is a diagnosis found in the big medical book DSM IV.

Hubbys boss just had to quite because of it. It was sad to see her go… she will be missed. I wish others in her office would have known how to help her.
