Well, I’ve been (lady)bugged about writing something about the conference Lessa and I attended.

The five days went by extremely quickly – and yet were very relaxing. There is something to be said for leaving your bed mussy each morning and returning each evening to find it made up and fresh towels in the bathroom.

Sadly, we never got to see the ghost of Heritage Hotel – and the desk clerk seemed non-plussed when I mentioned the story to her. She said “it just depends on who you talk to” and “Looks like you’ve been watching the travel channel.” Well, not for a long time, because now we only have BASIC basic cable and no longer receive the travel channel.

The conference itself: like any conference there were good speakers and not so great speakers. Maybe it is just me, or maybe the subjects just didn’t fit the conference. Actually there was only one real stinker – and Lessa and I BOTH attended that session. We quickly set up the laptops and began reading emails and such – working, I tell you, we were WORKING! Heh. Yeah.

We were trying to be polite by staying, but noticed that several did get up to leave. Ah, well.

Amy Tan was delightful – she was very personable and FUNNY! She was very involved in the conference, too. She attended the other author readings and even commented about one of the poems read at one during her final chat with us all. That was delightful to the poet, although she had not been there to hear the comment. Several of us mentioned it to her later that day – after Amy had already gone, though.

Lessa and I “bonded” – her terminology. 😉 That was fun – but a bit distressing to her, I think. I mean, I am not sure how I would have taken hearing my own mother say some of the things I found myself sharing with Lessa. Poor kid may be traumatized for life – hahahahaha. (yes, I really regret it – NOT!)

It is interesting to find that those pesky twenty years (and three weeks) age difference seem to be shortening up as we (both!) gain years. Very interesting.

I haven’t set up the pictures into flickr yet – but I do have some. They will come in time. (Gotta leave myself SOME room for future writing, right?)
