Taking a step away from Richard and Angela for a bit. This week’s 100 Word Challenge by VV is “Voice”. Today’s piece is about a woman in Texas whose voice has been taken away from her. Shelly is a storyteller in local schools.

Do you have a word to say? Share it with us.

She lost her voice. She wasn’t sick. Her voice was simply taken. She had told a tale.

And she lost her voice.

The schools said “No more! No more will you come to tell your stories to our precious babies! They are only 12 years old.”

She reasoned, “Twelve is old enough to discern right from wrong; old enough to know when stories are told to teach a point, right?”

“Well, yes,” they reluctantly agreed. “But!”

The debate continues. My friend told a ghost story to fourth graders. People who did not even hear it complained. They took her voice.

Personally – I don’t know a 12 year old who does NOT like scarey ghost stories. My own grands would have loved Shelly’s tale – it is posted on her blog, btw. I’m sorry her voice is being taken. I hope justice prevails.

This week’s challenge is Cuffs – so, carrying on from the past two 100 Word challenges – the plot with Richard and Angela thickens . . .

“What did you say?”

“I’m getting the car, Ang.”

“What car? Wait – the ‘vette? Why do you need a sports car? You’d have to keep it in storage six months every year. We live in Alaska, for Pete’s sake!”

“Angela, stop! I’m getting the car. I need a break. I’m tired and I want out.”

“Out? Rich, you’re freaking out – you’re freaking ME out. Let’s talk about this later. People are starting to stare.”

Rich stood, tugged his cuffs down over his wrists and pulled on his jacket. “You’re right. Let’s go. I wouldn’t want to embarrass you in public.”

This is a continuation of last week’s 100 word piece. I don’t know if it will go any further or if Richard is done now.

Richard sighed and tore his gaze away from the vision two tables over. Angela was right about one thing – she warmed his sheets. They’d been together long enough that they could read each other’s thoughts, evident from what had just happened.

Teen lovers, growing older together, until now he wanted more. He wasn’t sure what it was he wanted, just that he wanted MORE.

Visions of low-slung sports cars, black exterior with sleek red leather interior were his sugarplums. The blonde in the restaurant would look so good in that car next to him.

“Angela, we have to talk.”

Written for VV’s 100 Word Challenge. This week’s word is SLEEK.
It’s YOUR turn now. Sharpen those pencils, put on your thinking caps, and go!

She swayed into the room. All eyes turned toward her. It was as if a sound alerted them. A buzzing seemed to emanate from her. I thought it was the whispers of those she passed. Then she reached my chair and I realized the sound came from her, surrounded her, WAS her.

Luscious lips, brightly red. Waves of blonde curls framing her heart shaped face. I fell into her gaze – lost.

A tap on my shoulder.

All right, you can come back now, Richard. I’ve given you ample time to star gaze. Remember who warms your bed at night.

this is for Velvet Verbosity’s 100 Word Challenge – word of the week? Ample. Your turn . . .

These blankets are for a charity project through the Sharing Our Gifts project on ravelry. The solid blue is a premie sized blanket and the variegated is newborn size. They will be going to a hospital in Ohio.

The second shot is a closeup to show the pattern stitches in the two blankets. (click for larger views)

Also finished today – an Ogre My Ogre hat – a pattern I found on ravelry. This was at the request of the youngest grandson’s first grade teacher. He has one and she wanted one to wear with him. (love!) I also added flaps to a hat for the Pup. She gave me one of her fave hats way back before Christmas and asked me to add flaps. Hope she likes getting it back. 🙂
