The last week of August . . . first week of September . . . and our year quickly passes away.
It’s been a busy week – work and play. August was a busy work month. September and October both promise to be equally busy. Lovin’ my job.
Here are a few pictures from the past week. First – a mystery:
Walked out to my car on a crisp morning and noticed white patches all over the lawn . . . what in the world? So, I bent down to get a closer look.
hmmm – yup, spider webs. That was one busy mama. Time to cut the grass, ya think?
Leaving Soldotna after hubbymoose’s doctor’s appointment and spotted a BUNCH of ravens on the light standards – and on the grass on either side of the highway. Early morning feeding frenzy?
When I got to work Thursday one of my coworkers asked if I had seen that “rat” in the middle of the road when I passed a certain place on the road . . . erm, no. I was watching traffic and looking at Mt. Redoubt which was spewing a bit of steam, sorry.
She was insistent there had been a rat in the road – even called the police department to ask them about it. I finally told her I would go get pictures if I could. Sure enough – there was something in the middle of the turn lane.
This shot isn’t too great – it’s from the driveway across from the animal. I couldn’t get a really good shot of the nose – don’t think it was a rat – looks more like the nose of a muskrat. We do have those here – not so sure about rats in this area. I’ve heard differing opinions on that.
I was right next to the thing in these two shots – but the sun was glaring into my eyes and I couldn’t see what was in the viewer. So, the shots weren’t centered. Again – I think it is a muskrat. The toes and tail look like they could belong to a rat – but a muskrat has the same sort.
When I was shooting a quick shot I noticed a white car in the opposite lane passing very close to me. I wasn’t really impeding traffic as I was in the turn lane and, really, there were no cars behind me anyway. But . . . I got spooked a bit when I realized it was one of Kenai’s finest, so I scooted. Took the “back” roads to work so I couldn’t get a ticket.
🙂
So, while the mystery isn’t really solved, it gave us something to talk about the rest of the day.
Tomorrow we are picking up one of the grand-youngsters and taking him to breakfast – and then for a day trip. Yes, there will be more pics.
