I got it – the promotion, that is. And, contrary to my faulty belief – if we are able to get COLAs this year (we are a non-profit, so it depends on grants and such) I will not have to wait a full year – I will still be in line to receive one with my first check in August! A raise on top of a raise! That is just way too cool for me.

My boss and I spent some time today in my new office – until she got frustrated with how the files were left by the previous tenant. So, she sent me back to my smaller cave and we will try again tomorrow. She spent several hours putting the files into proper shape.

I can’t understand some folks – really.

But – that is all behind us, right? I am nervous. This job has a WHOLE LOT more responsibility – and I will be continuing doing the things I’ve been doing for the past 5 years – so I am going to be one busy puppy, I’ll tell ya!

That’s okay – that’s what keeps me young, right? right!

So – cautiously dancing on my cloud nine tonight. What’s up with all of you?

I sat at the bluff overlooking the mouth of the Kenai River and Cook Inlet during lunch today – it’s a great place for photos – I’ll share if any came out – later after downloading.

But today? Today was special! I now know that it is officially spring in Alaska: I saw my first pair of ducks winging madly overhead – AND – I heard my first woodpecker. Yay!

Not much sun today – it breaks through enticingly on occasion, though. Mt. Redoubt had a cloud layer right across her middle. An all-around lovely bit of time away from shop.

Don’t forget to go and vote for Knitting Passions or Watching Survivor – okay? And, if you are nominated for something, let me know so I can go vote for you, too.

And, congrats to Lessa for her new “watching” blog – Watching Rachel Ray.

I tell you, Lessa’s snark is on fulltime these days. I love living life vicariously through her. It is SO much fun!

The first of the year – miles that is – okay, I know that it is only a portion of ONE mile, but a gal’s gotta start SOMEWHERE, right? Right.

The distance from my work place to the highway (or what passes for a highway in Kenai, Alaska) is .3 mile. That means the return trip is another .3 (add a teensy bit for crossing the road twice so as to face oncoming traffic). And, that is the distance I walked today. Ouch! my hips – well, the outside tops of my thighs – HURT! My lower back complained, too.

This pain is why I quit walking after the car accident two summers ago. But quitting walking has just allowed me to pile back on all the weight I had lost. Ugh!

I figure if I take it easy – don’t push for time or distance – sooner rather than later I will be able to not only walk this road, but be able to make a turn at the highway and head either north or south. That’s the way I figure. We’ll see what happens in reality. I’ve done it before so . . . hang in there with me, okay?

In other news:

Well, not quite yet – but the temps ARE inching up every day. We were clear up to 34 yesterday! WOOT!!!

And the angel is melting

sunset over Mt. Redoubt - Kenai, Alaska

taken Wednesday evening along the Bridge Access Road in Kenai near the Kenai River. That is ice the sun is reflecting from in the foreground. In a few weeks it will be melted and the spring birds will be honking and whistling and seeking nourishment from the wetlands.

I sat there for close to half an hour waiting for the sun to dip so I could snap the shot. It has been highlighted on KTUU’s evening news, and I will likely put this one into next year’s Fur Rondy contest.
