One day trips to anchortown are not my favorite thing to do – up and back in the same day – 300+ miles, 3+ hours each way, road construction, road whales (rvs) and idiot drivers (anyone but me – hahaha) add up to a not so fun trip.

Add to that the stress of having to take hubby to the eye doc for an evaluation for an upcoming cataract surgery . . . well, just a wee bit difficult.

But, we made it through in one piece – even found a local yarn shop I have been trying to find the last several trips up – and got the Girl her (13th!!) birthday gift. So, it turned out okay.

You can read more about the local yarn shop over at knittingpassion. I’ve placed links to Zaynab’s shop (Knitting Grounds) and her blog (knits from grounds) there also.

Bought a skein of TOFUtsies sock yard – did you know it is made (well 2.5% of it) from shrimp and crab shells? That’s just pretty cool. She had a sample sock made of the yarn and it feels so soft! That may be my next project – I have so many different things on needles at the moment, but I am looking forward to seeing how the yarn knits up.

Hubby moose will have the cataract surgery on his right eye in mid-August. They will wait to do the left eye until after the first surgery is completely healed and he is ready. That will either be the end of August or sometime in September or October. It actually depends on hubby and the doc – they just need to give me enough warning so I can arrange to take time off work. 😉

Have a great Wednesday, everyone!

Today when I checked the mail I found my booty from the recently held Boob-Haha auctions –

purrrrty!

I just checked Wendy’s 3day site and it looks like she only has $57 to go to meet her $5000 goal – if you can, go on over and make a donation – EVERY dollar helps. And, even more fun, Wendy has said that she will SHAVE HER HEAD if she meets her goal. Now, you KNOW you want a part of that, right? Right!

Hubby moose and I are headed to anchortown in the morning. He has an appointment with an eye surgeon in the afternoon. Depending on the outcome of that he will be having cataract surgeries in August. I’ll update with the info when I get it.

You all have a great day!

day sleeper

This is what happens to you after you pull two all nighters as awake night staff! Poor guy. Don’t you all feel sorry for him snoozing away in his chair while the sun is shining outside????

Last night Lessa and the grands and I went to an Alaskan Salmon Bake hosted by a group of local Alaska natives. Good company and yummy food! What more can one ask?

Well, the drumming, of course. How much fun when the Pup was invited to join in. She was really wanting to do it – you could see the yearning in her whole body. So, she joined in and the older two groaned. 😉

check out our girl in action. (Thanks for the link, Lessa!)

and, thanks, too, to Lisa who sent me the following story about a man riding his lawn mower from Barrow, Alaska to Virginia.

In Chinese communities around the world, eight (8) is considered the most fortuitous of numbers, making it much coveted for addresses, phone numbers and bank accounts, as the Chinese’s and Cantonese’s articulation and pronunciation for eight (ba for Mandarin and paat for Cantonese) sounds similar to the word that signifies ‘prosperity’ (fa for Mandarin and faat for Cantonese).

My dentist is Chinese and his license plate is all 8s. I asked him one time for the reason and he pretty much told me exactly what the above quoted website says.

He reiterated that today – I was at his office giving him and his staff a training from my agency that he had requested – he then told me that in China such a license plate would cost a million dollars. “Here, it’s (practically) free,” he laughed.

And, then I told him about my car – you might remember my posting a photo when my odometer turned 70000 (January 24, 2006). Well, as I was driving to his office to give the training, I just had to pull over because my odometer turned 88888. Yes, I took a picture:

888888

Pretty doggoned cool, huh?

btw – I LOVE my dentist. He is so much fun!
