Lindsey has that whole oriental thing going (her mother is Korean), and Valerie’s face is rounder, but seen separately they bear a strong resemblance. Don’t you think?

123 me me for batty

Because she asked so nicely (well, she told me to, anyway) here you go – a meme for Batty.

The 123 Rules:
1) Pick up the book nearest you with at least 123 pages. (No cheating!)
2) Turn to page 123.
3) Count the first five sentences.
4) Post the next three sentences.
5) Tag five other bloggers.

I don’t trust newspapers, don’t like them, usually wouldn’t be caught dead reading them; but this was different.

This time I was outside the official circle of information, and I needed a starting point. I was going to do something about Ginger Watkins’ death, jurisdictions be da***d.

Off to work now – off to face the frigid winter air – it IS warmer today, however – clear up to minus 7 degrees!!!! It is virtually BALMY out there – compared to the minus 20s we had earlier this week – and DEFINITELY compared to the minus 70 degree temps they are having in the Interior region of the state.

Baby it’s cold outside!

smlmoose312.JPG It’s so cold that the moose have frost on their faces, too! I caught this cow moose as she tried to cross the highway. This is at the corner I turn towards work.

At first she and her calf were on the road I was going to turn onto, then a car came and scared them up into the snow next to the road. She stared at me while I waited for traffic to clear so I could make the turn. Since she was posing so prettily I grabbed the camera and got a shot of her. Her calf ran off the other way.

After I made the turn, mama moosie ventured out onto the highway and on across. Baby crossed afterwards, I’m sure. (they have a way of either finding mama or making their own way – at this stage they are able to make it by themselves if they have to.)

No it’s not an optical illusion – they really are bigger than cars. That’s why it’s so dangerous to hit one – they come up and over the top of the vehicle, often tearing off the roof of the car – or at the least, denting it in and breaking out the glass of the car, injuring the folks inside.

And, you sure don’t want one to still be alive and on top of your car – those hooves are dangerous!

But – they are fun to watch. In fact, Lessa tells me that her dog woke her up at 3:30 this morning because one was in her window.

And, the grands called us this morning to let us know they couldn’t get to our house for breakfast because there was one in our driveway. So Paw-Paw Moosie drove down to pick them up and bring them back here.
😉 He’s a softy like that.

A Special Request

Share a Square – update:

sasbags.JPGShelly has done such a great job with, first, having the idea, and second, following through on the idea to gift 140 campers with afghans . . . Share a Square was born on a whim and took off on a wing and a prayer.

A lot of people have written and said they could neither knit or crochet, that they could sew. So, it is THOSE people on whom we call now. All of the squares needed to complete the afghans have been collected. They are being joined together. That part of the project is complete.

The first youngster to receive an afghan loved it – he would not take the tags off it (each square in each afghan is made by different people who place a tag on it with their good wishes) for two weeks she was told. Then he would shuffle the tags like cards, looking through them again and again.

So, Shelly had another great idea – wouldn’t it be fun if each child had a bag in which to hold their tags once they were taken off the afghans?

Yeah, I thought so, too. So, I agreed to put out a plea to you all requesting your help in this. We are putting together 140 afghans, so we need 140 bags. They can be as simple or as fancy as you choose. I will be collecting 70 bags and Sherry at Yellow Rose Garden is collecting 70 bags.

The bags pictured above are just to give you an idea. The white bag is probably too big for the project, but the dark red one is just about the right size at 3 1/2 by 5 inches. I received it at a welcome home shower for a Chinese orphan who was adopted by people at church. It is made of Chinese silk and held candy as I recall – from China.

But it looks to be a perfect size to hold all of the tags from an afghan.
