e·nig·ma
n.
1. One that is puzzling, ambiguous, or inexplicable.
2. A perplexing speech or text; a riddle.

Yeah, Number 1 refers to moi this week. A lot has happened since last Sunday. I wrote about it over here – that’s the first half of the story. The second half of the story is here. And, while I was going to recap it here, too, I really don’t have it in me.

Please go over there and read the story – and know that I am fine – really. I’m an enigma and love being one. The docs just do not know what to do with me.

Go Red for Women Heart Checkup

Providence Heart Center

I have been placed in a position of authority until April 1st because my boss is on a 3 month sabbatical. (it’s well deserved and earned, I must say. We are all so glad she is getting this chance)

This, of course, is in addition to doing my own job and so there is sometimes a bit of stress. Add to that the time I have missed due to my little surgery escaped, and I am understanding more than before how much my boss needs this time away from all of us.
😉

But, I am learning the power of – and the need for – delegation of duties. In the past couple of weeks it has become quite clear to me that I simply cannot (nor should I) do it all. So, I have tried to assign (sounds so stiff, but can’t think of another way to say it) things to other – very well qualified – staff members.

One day I even caught myself sounding just like my boss – and I stopped mid-sentence, looked at the person I was talking to, and said “Wow! I sounded just like an Executive Director there for a minute, didn’t I?” and we both laughed.

But it was one of those “AHA!” moments for me.

You can ask my kids – I don’t always have a great deal of self assuredness. My boss even told me one time that even though I go kicking and screaming into something new she can count on me to come through in the end. That is so good to hear – but it is also so hard for me to believe.

Slowly, I’m starting to believe that I can do this!!!

Gonna have to think of a way to thank my boss on her return – of course, handing the agency back to her in good shape is one way, huh?

But – maybe chocolates, too. 😉

It would seem that in a couple of years I am going to have a milestone birthday – #60 in 2010. That same year daughter #1 will celebrate her 40th (ack! I’ll be the mother of a 40 year old!!!!) and #2 will celebrate her 35th. I think you will all agree that such milestones take planning and SPECIALness, right? Right.

So, I have a dream that both daughters will join me for a trip to the islands . . . Hawaiian islands, that is. Hubby and I visited the Big Island for our 35th anniversary in 2004 and I left a part of my heart there. It’ll soon be time for me to go and collect it – or maybe leave another little part of my heart there – to be gathered up at some future time.

hawaii.jpg   At any rate – several months ago – probably a year ago now – the three of us began to save our pennies for the future trip. After a couple of months I began to add my singles and fives to the cache. I have just about enough for one airfare saved up. Now to save for the rooms and car and side trips. It’s a good thing we’re giving ourselves a couple more years.

😉

When hubby and I went we used mileage to get there. Probably won’t have that luxury this time, so will need to save, save, save.

It’s fun to save for something that you know you will enjoy. It’s easier to save when you have a goal for the money you are socking away, too.

What is your goal for the new year? Will you be saving for something special – that ONE PAYMENT plan is definitely the BEST way to go!

Now, if anyone else wants to join us – start saving those pennies and jump on board our party!

Happy weekend, everyone! Well, it is still Saturday here in Alaska, but way back there on the eastern side of the US it is already Sunday, so good morning, friends!

Today has been a tiring day – I know, I know, don’t overdo it, Moosie, but sometimes you just gotta get outta the house, ya know?

We drove over Soldotna way to have lunch and to get the Christmas ham. The crowds! Yeesh! And, hubby moose is SUCH  a social butterfly . . . he simply MUST stop to chat with EVERYONE in the store . . . sigh! I can walk and I can sit, but standing still, not so much.

If it got to be too much and he was still chattering away I would walk on away from him. I called him at one point to tell him I was at the meat counter – thinking (mistakenly, of course) that he would come on over and lift that heavy ham into the cart . . . but nooooooooooooo – bless the sales lady’s heart – she put it into the cart for me.

😉

Have you ever had one of those spiral cut hams with the brown sugar glaze on it? Yummy!

I continued on and got most of the shopping done while he stood about and chatted. Of course, every now and again I would see someone I knew and I would do the same – lots of sharing about the “Christmas Miracle” as it has come to be known hereabouts.

I mentioned going to the regular doc when I wrote that last entry – I wanted to get his blessings on not taking the bp meds – or hear him say I should take them. But, I also wanted to give him a Christmas gift – the story of what he started back in October by sending me on to the surgeon.

He was so excited . . . ran out and told the MAs (medical assistants) and the word spread quickly. Friday when hubby moose went for HIS appointment and told his doc (a different doc in the same office – down from Anchorage for the day) it turned out he already knew – as did most of the staff by that time. (patient confidentiality? nope – but not a biggie in this case)

And, the doc told me I could stop the meds – at least until my bp climbs up to unacceptable ranges again. I am all for that – it will save me some money.

Yipee! 😉

The Pup – all blond hair and big blue eyes – innocently (or not so innocently – you make the determination haha) asked me a couple of days ago: “Gramma, have you had the GF yet?”

Ha ha ha ha – funny child that she is.
