took the 13 year old granddaughter for her shopping day. She was staying with two friends. Took them, too.

Have you done this lately? Taken THREE 13 year old GIRLS shopping???? There was a sale on costume jewelry – 60% off. I gave them a top dollar limit and told them they could each buy something under that limit. ONE HOUR LATER – they all had found something.

In the meantime I had found a dress, a pair of capri pants and a skirt for the Girl to try on – all on sale, too. I love it when a plan works – all three FIT her! yay! (again with the !!!s)

Giggly gaggle of girls – entirely too much fun. Thanks to all of their parents for letting them come with us. We thoroughly enjoyed our time together and have become adopted grandparents to the other two. Big squooshy hugs to all.

Drumming at the Conference . . .

It’s a healing thing – and, fun, too!

Drummers and Dancers

We’ve had fog and sun and a great big full moon (and lunar eclipse!) this week. Cooler weather and fall allergies . . . yup, I’m thinking that it must be fall!

perfect weather for toadstools! Found this one outside my office yesterday. Pretty colors, but don’t eat!

This has been a busy week at work – I spent Monday and Tuesday at a conference the next town over – very informative. I was the first presenter – that was nerve-wracking,  but a good experience overall. Give me the floor and I’ll take the room. Haha.

We ended the conference with a native drumming group:

I was asked to join in for one of the songs and felt honored to do it. There is quite a healing effect in a drumming circle.

Some things are changing at work – but change can be a good thing. I seem to be doing well at my new job. My boss is apparently happy with my performance. And, she tells me that she will begin training me to take on some more responsibility, too!  It is always nice to hear that you are doing well and that the boss has faith in you – quite a good old ego boost!

Really, I ask you – just how many !!!! can one moose use in a single entry? 😉

Well, my hands are getting cold – I have the window cracked open just a bit, but it is a tad chilly outside. So, I am going to end for now. Hope you all have a wonderful weekend. Stay safe out there.

We are home from the big city – hubby’s right eye cataract surgery has been completed! We are thankful that it went well. In fact, this morning Ladybug and we watched the video of the surgery – yum! Okay, depends on your ack capacity whether or not it was yum. But, my tummy didn’t cringe nearly as badly watching it today as it did when I was sitting in the viewing area WATCHING the whole thing.

Yes, the center is great – they have wonderful staff, both on the pre-op side and the surgical side. We were well treated. The room was FULL of people getting the same surgery – and the staff – well AWESOME is the word I would use. Very caring folks – we were very comfortable with everyone.

Hubby says the worst part was the injection to put his eye asleep – that and hearing the mini-vacuum cleaner taking out the cloudy lens. He didn’t like that part a bit.

You can read a bit more over at the diabetes blog I write.

On the way home yesterday we stopped in Cooper Landing to get some water (and to leave some behind – haha) when I spotted a fellow breaking down cardboard boxes. I asked him if he minded if I took the following picture.

lol – apparently it’s a brand of wine. I don’t drink, so don’t know. But I LOVE the box! I should have asked for it, huh? Naw – I got the picture.

Okay, Hubby Moose is asking me to drive his somewhere, so I will get out of here and go take care of him.

I’ve arranged to take off work through Monday – I am LOVING sleeping in! Gonna have to be totally retrained come Tuesday morning.

nibblers

Mama and baby moose

This is a shot from my office door – taken last week during a sunny break. Mama moose browsing – baby walked under her chin, then into the woods behind her – munching away, looking back from time to time.

I had to shoo away some kids on bicycles who were much too close to her for my comfort. They are pretty big critters as you can tell – she is near a minivan – probably if right next to it and she raised her head she would be able to see over it easily. That big.

So – it’s not a good idea for kids – or anyone – to get too close and to make mama too nervous. You especially do NOT want to come between her and baby moose. That is a definite no-no.  She looks pretty relaxed in this shot – you have to worry if her ears come forward and her neck ruff stands straight up – if she blows hard – if she comes toward you – you get the picture. Not fun to deal with.

But fun to see from across the parking lot in the safety of an open door.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhlaska!

One day trips to anchortown are not my favorite thing to do – up and back in the same day – 300+ miles, 3+ hours each way, road construction, road whales (rvs) and idiot drivers (anyone but me – hahaha) add up to a not so fun trip.

Add to that the stress of having to take hubby to the eye doc for an evaluation for an upcoming cataract surgery . . . well, just a wee bit difficult.

But, we made it through in one piece – even found a local yarn shop I have been trying to find the last several trips up – and got the Girl her (13th!!) birthday gift. So, it turned out okay.

You can read more about the local yarn shop over at knittingpassion. I’ve placed links to Zaynab’s shop (Knitting Grounds) and her blog (knits from grounds) there also.

Bought a skein of TOFUtsies sock yard – did you know it is made (well 2.5% of it) from shrimp and crab shells? That’s just pretty cool. She had a sample sock made of the yarn and it feels so soft! That may be my next project – I have so many different things on needles at the moment, but I am looking forward to seeing how the yarn knits up.

Hubby moose will have the cataract surgery on his right eye in mid-August. They will wait to do the left eye until after the first surgery is completely healed and he is ready. That will either be the end of August or sometime in September or October. It actually depends on hubby and the doc – they just need to give me enough warning so I can arrange to take time off work. 😉

Have a great Wednesday, everyone!
