Honest I am!
Very busy at work – on-site visit from one of our funders – that requires a lot of clean up and preparation. Spent 4+ hours with them yesterday – another couple today.
 But first . . . (more…)
My buddy, Lisa, is in a bit of a funk. So, I dedicate this entry to her. (and, I am writing this so she won’t come here and say WHAT? WHERE IS THE MOOSIE???)
Guess what, Lisa? It SNOWED last night – okay – it wasn’t much of a snow, but it snowed. I know that you love the stuff. And, we like it, too – at least at first. It’s when it is hanging around still in May that we get a bit disgruntled.
We’re in the big town tonight. Hubby had his second cataract surgery this afternoon. He did great – is feeling his cheerios and is still his orneriness. He’s out in the kitchen right now buggin the b&b lady. 😉
We’ve had lunch and I’ve again salivated over the plates.
We’ve gone shopping where I purchased some more yarn for the Share a Squares project – and did some shopping here where I bought some more work slacks.
And . . . now we’re visiting with some friends and snugging down for the night at our favorite Anchorage bed & breakfast.
Really, friends, just what more could anyone ask?
Okay, Lisa . . . remember you have friends here and about. Love ya!
Lisa wants a story. And, what Lisa wants, Lisa gets. 😉
Let’s see now . . .
1) I’m becoming a grown up in this old internet world . . . I just (all by myself, mindyou) renewed the kenaiwriter.net domain. Woot! Of course, I couldn’t figure out how to get into my account yesterday . . . and a call to their tech support didn’t help me because of several reasons: my credit card number has changed; my email address has changed . . . and I could NOT for the life of me remember my password – and the hint just did NOT help.
so – I did what any normal person would do – I stuck my head in the sand and said I could wait until today to try it again.
Worked like a charm – I typed in a password without even thinking about it twice and it was the right one. I now have my domain for another two years. Am I good, or what?
WHAT????
Have been busily knitting and crocheting. This is what I do (instead of writing – which I also need to do – sigh) to come down to the (so called)Â real world after busy days at work and dealing with the particular group of clients I deal with weekly. Sometimes I just want to curl up in my chair with a pair of needles and a graph and just knit away.
I finished this dish cloth  last night for a friend at church. She wears a baby feet pin (her silent witness for the unborn) on her jacket. When I saw the pattern I knew I had to make it for her. She loved it.
I had coffee with a “knitwit” friend Saturday morning. She and her sister-in-law and I all knitted sweaters last winter. We were looking through patterns for felted bags.
My friend’s son is in the U.S. Marines. So, in addition to a couple of other dishcloths made for her, I also stayed up until midnight Friday night to finish this one:
It’s the Marine Corps emblem. She says she is going to keep it and not use it. (that’s the same thing my friend with the baby feet said)
I’ve crocheted as many squares as Shelly wants from me for now. But she still needs squares from other folks. You see, she uses 48 squares per afghan and likes to use one from 48 different people, not all from the same person. She needs some more squares to make up some more afghans. I’ve sent her 108 so far. My personal goal is really 140 (one for each afghan), but I’m going to hold off for now until she uses up all the ones she has.
In the meantime, Shelly is going to send me a couple of “kits” to stitch up and edge. I’ll get those done up as quickly as possible and send the completed afghans back to her.
Go on over and check out the whole story, won’t you? And, then sharpen up those crochet hooks and send her some squares.
Oh, hey . . . while you’re there, check out her latest contest . . . Name that Tune . . . and check out what you can win!!! Pretty nifty little deal. If I win it, I’ll set it up among all the mooses on top of the computer stand. Deadline is October 4th. Go on over there now and put your singing and thinking caps on.
How’s that, Lisa? I hope this will do. I’ll try to come back and fill you all in on the latest and greatest in the moosie’s life more often.
thought of Lo** . . . but I think I’ll have to explain, huh?
First of all – there is the little controversy over how to spell “Coho” <– that way is singular while Cohoe(s) is plural.
A “coho” is a type of salmon – a silver salmon. (we have five species in Alaska – the coho/pink, the chinook/king, the sockeye/red, the chum/dogs, and humpy/pink. There is also the landlocked red which is called a kokanee.)
Now, as is the case in most of the U.S., places and roads share names with animals and fish and birds. So – locally we will find Coho Loop and near it, Coho Lake and a (lot of) bed and breakfast(s), one of which is called Cohoe (note that pesky “e”) Lake Cabins.
so – back to the license plate spotted today –
Could it be Silver Salmon Lo(is)? Or Coho(e) Loop Lolita?
or could it be short hand for “Come home, Lola”?
Phew! I must be tired – my brain is thinking weird things – I’ll tell you why I’m tired later.
When hubby and I visited Hawaii and Ali (hello, Ali, wherever you are!) for our 35th anniversary three years ago we were amused at the directions we received from nearly everyone . . . . “keep going, keep going . . .” and eventually we would find what we were looking for. It works – so don’t break it you see.
So, on Labor Day we did some honey-dos, which included purchasing a new mattress set for our bed. We’ve had the old one for much too long (it’s at LEAST 15 years old!) and we are beyond the time we should have replaced it. It’s so nice – thank you hubby moose.
Afterwards we decided to take a bit of a drive. Hubby wasn’t set on any particular place – he quipped that the last decision he had made (the drive to the mattress store) had cost a lot of money so he wasn’t going to choose the next one. haha. (it works because I was driving)
So I set off towards Anchorage – not meaning to go the whole way – because it is too long a trip to take that late in the day when you have to be at work early the next morning. We stopped in Cooper Landing to get a bottle of water and headed back home.
Only I turned left at the first road – to see the Cooper Landing Post Office ostensibly. Except that it was RIGHT THERE! after the turn and I was still not ready to head home. So – we drove Hawaii style – we kept going and kept going . . . up and up and up Snug Harbor Road until we ran out of pavement and kept going until we ran out of open road. The big yellow gate was closed and we could go no further.
The glimpses we caught of Kenai Lake along the road made a gorgeous vista – as did the following (name unknown to us – but we think it is part of the Russian Lakes system):
Can we just say “Wow!”? I knew we could.
Hubby swore that we had driven at least 25 miles back – but on measuring it coming back it was only 12 miles. 😉 The gravel made it a bit teeth chattering, though. And . . . we were the only car on the road. All of the rest of the vehicles were either trucks or SUVs. Big chickens!
We did not realize how HIGH we had gone – we knew we had been driving UP, but . . . it wasn’t until we turned around to come back DOWN that we realized that we had traveled UP the ENTIRE way! Hardly had to touch the gas pedal at all coming back. Could almost have put the car into neutral and coasted down.
Turned left again before we got to the highway to check out the new senior citizen housing at the top of yet another hill. WOW! They have a gorgeous view of the mountains and Kenai Lake. Wonder how long their waiting list is . . . and how much it costs . . . heh.
(someday I’ll retire you know)
So – how was YOUR labor day?
