Never, ever, EVER bet against your mama!

Spotted at Fred Meyer in the sister city Saturday morning. Replete in his mama’s little black dress, hose, 3 inch heels, jewels and makeup. He’s about 16 years old and, really . . . a good sport about losing the bet to his mama.

I love living in small town Alaska.

And, not only is it February, but it’s the 2nd . . . Groundhog Day! Wonder what the news is from that little winter holding tyrant. Well, no matter what Phil says, I imagine we have at least six more weeks of winter here in Alaska.

I haven’t peeked outside yet to see, but hubby said it was trying to snow last night when he left for work . . . . I told him that’s a good thing if it does . . . I can use some fresh snow to wipe all that Anchorage grunge off my car. (He didn’t want to go through the car wash because it was too cold and the doors might freeze shut – or open.)

I’ll look when it’s time to go to work. haha – nothing like procrastination in THIS house. 🙂

Took the week off work last week and was L.A.Z.Y. to the max. I told the women at work that I was not even going to pretend and say I was going to clean house. If I had to have a STAY-cation, I was going to do what I wanted to do . . . rest, read, and knit. And that is what I did.

Daughter Lessa and I did make a run to Anchorage (thus the road grunge on the car) Thursday – we did the walmart thang, ate, laughed, and talked until we could do no more. Then we slept and did some more of the same the next day before heading back to Kenai. We also went to the big 16 plex theatre and watched The Blind Side. (Gonna buy that one when it comes out – great movie)

Made a couple pairs of mittens/mitts last week also. One I can show you:
fleursa anna's mittens
These were made for a co-worker. The other I cannot show you as it is for someone’s birthday . . . and she reads here. 🙂

One of the groups I belong to at ravelry.com held NaKniMitMo10 . . . National Knitting MIttens Month 2010 . . . in January and I took part in the challenge to make at least one pair of mittens. I ended the month with 8 pairs. Yeah, I was shocked, too! Four of them were kiddo sized, but even still, that was a lot for me. Now, the group is voting on faves – mine aren’t pulling big votes, although one of the piggy mitts has gotten 5 votes!

That’s okay. I don’t mind. Some of the projects were gorgeous! I did go through, though, and vote for everyone who had 5 or less votes. I think people deserve more than one (likely their own) vote, don’t you?

Well, I need to check to see if it snowed, thus to gauge how much time I need to take before heading to work. More later.

Hello, friends. So, awhile back I posted about meeting Alaska’s governor, Sean Parnell. I also posted about it at ravelry.com.

What a whirlwind . . . of course, Sarah got brought into it – not sure why, but “some people” and all that can’t see beyond their partisanship. I hadn’t even mentioned her, but you know how dogs can be with their bones, right? Yeah, same way as partisan politics.

You see, I don’t have to be a D or an R to appreciate and respect a sitting government official, and to appreciate the fact that he took time out of his schedule to come see what is going on in a domestic violence shelter. That, friends, is where it is – getting out there and getting your fingers a bit dirty in the dust of the world – and, I respect that.

So, I was tickled to ask for and receive permission to have my picture taken with him – and to post it on this blog.

Then I posted it at ravelry – and got slammed because of it. Sigh.

But that is okay – I just didn’t buy into the fray and walked away from that discussion thread and considered the source. The discussion died of its own accord. (If you don’t play the game, the gamers get tired and go on for bigger/better game.)

I learned a lesson – stick to my chosen craft and knit, baby knit. It works.

Today, however, I peeked in on a thread where someone posted about the president coming to her school and look – I knit the dress I’m wearing to meet the president.

Pretty cool, huh?

Yeah, she’s getting the same treatment – people hijacking the thread to bash other people’s “politics”.

Walking away – shaking my head – someday they’ll be older and wiser, too. Right? Right?

One could only hope. Peace, my friends. Go and make a donation to Red Cross’ efforts in Haiti, or Unicef’s efforts in Haiti, or a local homeless/DV shelter, or the local food bank, or something. That thought just makes me smile. 🙂

Piggy Mittens from spillyjane. I showed the first finished one at church this morning and one of the Gramma’s would like me to make one (in pink and purple) for her granddaughter. Fun.

This pair, however, will be joining the lizards for a trip to the Sharing our Gifts project #4 benefitting the Tamassee DAR School in North Carolina. This is a private non-profit children’s home and family service organization offering multi-faceted programs to serve children and families in crisis.

btw I love Spillyjane’s new pattern – feathered friends. Gonna have to get that one.

How’s your Sunday going?

These are the Lizard Kid Mittens by ozbambi – made for the next Sharing Our Gifts project. While the pattern did not call for it, hubbymoose decided the lizards neeed tongues. Everyone who has seen them agrees.
😉

Easy and fun to make.
