if you think this is a good idea:
kite

and this is why:

Here’s the printed version – in case the video doesn’t work (I have trouble with the sound for some reason).

The two top pics are ones I took on my way into Anchorage last Sunday afternoon. Looks like this happened a week later on Monday. Probably the same guy.

There were actually two of them out there – I was having a lot of trouble getting a good shot of them – but you can see the kite – there’s a person under it on the water on a board.

Crazy peoples.

Goodness . . . I love Alaska.
😉

5-10-09 Hubby and I went to a Mother’s Day buffet brunch for our anniversary dinner. Okay, we really went because we were hungry – and it was at our weekend favorite place (Ginger’s in Soldotna). And, afterwards when we got the bill I realized we paid one dollar for each year we’d been married.
😉
Yeah, I’m weird like that. Oh, and yes, that’s the sparkly shirt I bought in Anchorage.

Today we decided to drive to Homer to the south of us – because we both had an extra day off – and because it was a gorgeous day. I was hoping for some different angled pictures of Mt. Redoubt, but Cook Inlet was not cooperating – there was way too much mist to get any good shots. So, bummer on that.

However, it was a nice break from the regular stuff we do. I love the water – love the mountains – could sit (as long as I was warm) for a long time just listening to the bird sounds and the water sounds.

We drove down to the Homer Spit to see what we could see – at the end of the road.

homerdock This is the view from the parking lot at the end of the road – literally, the end of the highway on the Kenai Peninsula. No, I’m not really sure what those things in the water might be – hubby thinks maybe larger ships tie up to them – there is a walkway (we think) that leads to the dock from the third structure to the left. So, maybe he’s right. Fun to conjecture, though.

comnhome
Here’s a fishing boat coming in with its catch . . . or maybe it’s just been out on a shake-down journey – making sure the boat is all . . . well, shipshape.

4sale
Hey! Wanna buy some condos? They’re for sale! Look a little tanked to me – no windows to speak of, either . . . might be a little too claustrophobic for me . . .

oh, okay . . . the sign was for these:
4salereal
Yeah, I think they’re a bit ugly, too. Each to his own, I guess.

It was a nice day – we chatted, we ate (of course!), and we laughed. What more could someone ask as they start their forty first year together?

Not only is it Mother’s Day . . . but today Hubbymoose and I celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary. I know . . . who KNEW it would last so long, eh? Certainly not the starry eyed (smirking) couple you see in this picture. That was actually taken after we began dating – we were only 16 at the time. A LOT of water(s) has gone under the bridge since then.

😉

Happy Mother’s Day to all of you who might stop by here today. I trust your daughters and sons gave you kisses and love and lots of hugs.

I am blessed to have two daughters, both of whom love me – and both of whom are gorgeous moms themselves. Happy Mother’s Day, Ladybug and Lessa!!!! Thank you both for making me a mom. I especially thank you both for making me a Gramma.

And, to Hubbymoose . . . cheers! Happy Anniversary.

aka . . .

ooooooohhhhhhh SHINY!

Instead of eating lunch out today – I went shopping – bought a new blouse – which I am wearing right now (no delayed gratification for me!)

Picture when I get home – to the camera cord (sigh!)

p.s. slept like a log last night – apparently true to their word (or I was VERY TIRED and could have slept through an earthquake) the hotel staff did NOT do laundry after I went to bed.

shining grin! 😉

Arrived Anchorage Sunday evening – checked in with no problem. Went to bed around 11 or so.

Monday – 2:58 a.m.:
A great racket ensued – waking the Moose up out of a (mostly) (except for the knee that has been bothering me since last Thursday) peaceful slumber. What in the world could that be? The noise was coming from the dresser/TV cabinet. On closer inspection (complete with LIGHTS at 3 a.m. – in the morning!!!!) I discovered that for some unknown (to me) reason – the TV assembly was VIBRATING. And all of the stuff holding the TV assembly TO the cabinet was clinking and clanking with the vibrations.

Earthquake? My sleep addled brain was awake enough to wonder – and, was I feeling shaking or swaying . . . or was that just my sleep induced/early awakened tremoring? Yeah, that last.

The only thing in the room vibrating and shaking was the durned TV. What????

It stopped after about 3 (very long) minutes – and back to sleep I go . . .

. . . then again at 3:58 a.m.:
Cue repeat of earlier happenings. A great racket ensued – waking the Moose up out of a (mostly) (except for the knee – and, now, the earlier awakening) peaceful slumber. What in the world could that be? The noise was coming from the dresser/TV cabinet. AGAIN!!!!

THIS TIME? This time the moose pulled the assemblage out on its little rollers so the TV was now sticking out into the room. The vibrating continued (and, yes, I checked the wall behind to see if it was somehow coming from the room next to me – nup! And, yes, lessa – I checked the drawers for a BOB someone might have left behind – ewwww) but at least now the clanking and clattering had ceased and I could head back to my bed.

Cue wake up alarm at 6 a.m. and it’s time for moosie to get up and get ready for her day of work meetings. Off to the shower I go – leaving the bathroom door open. After all, I’m the only one here, so I can let it all hang out so to speak . . . right? Right?

Wrong! In the midst of my gloriously hot shower a high pitched whine/whistle began. It took me a couple of minutes, but I figured it out soon enough:
Door open – check
Hot shower – check
Fan off (uh-oh) – check
Smoke detector – right outside the bathroom door (WHO designs these rooms?) check

One thoroughly wet PurpleMoose nekkid in the bathroom with visions of the hotel’s fire brigade breaking down her door and nary a robe to be found – and, of course . . . those towels would not cover hardly ANY of me. – check – yet again.
😉

Moosie oh, so nimbly (hahahahahahahahaha – breathe – hahahahahahahaha) steps/trips out of the tub to hurriedly turn on the heat light/fan, swing the bathroom door back and forth to dissipate the steam, CLOSE the bathroom door firmly, and thank God the hotel fire brigade is slowly figuring out what is going on in that room on the second floor.

Wonder what the rest of the day will hold?

Note: we think we have figured out the weird vibrations cause – apparently my room is RIGHT ON TOP of the laundry room. They are NOT supposed to be doing laundry in the middle of the night . . . but . . . it would appear that is what was being done.

IF . . . IF it happens again tonight – I am calling the desk right then to complain . . . and tomorrow I will be relocated to another room.

Humpf.

😉 It could only happen to your very own favorite PurpleMoose, right?

Right!
