6gulls

A Bird ?

Scavenger Hunt Challenge #2, Week 10 of 13
Week beginning 6.3.06
Photos Due by 6.9.06

BONUS POINTS AVAILABLE:

3 pts. if the bird is a real live bird.
5 pts. if the bird is in the wild.

Not just one, but it looks like at least 6 real live arctic terns in this photo and all in the wild – taken from the bluff over the mouth of the Kenai River yesterday during my lunch. The terns/gulls catch the thermals and ride up and down over the lip of the bluff – hours on end. It is quite peaceful to sit there during lunch and listen to their calls – and those of the ravens (their “caws” – heh) and the occasional eagle or two.

I’ll try to get in here soon to play catch up – honest! In the meantime . . .

enjoy this new little guy:

moose1

Pretty new – looks to be only a few days old – not purple – they come out sort of orange. I looked up from my desk at work (yes – I am at my desk!!!! we hired a receptionist!!! yay) and had to dig for my camera quick – s/he only held still for a couple of shots, though. Got scared up to the window by the big bad paving guys with their noisy machinery.

That is milk foamed up all around the muzzle. Looks like someone’s afternoon snack got interrupted.

and, check out how big my “little” guy is getting – this one will be taller than “Gramps” in no time. 😉

Ruins
Scavenger Hunt Challenge #2, Week 9 of 13
Week beginning 5.27.06
Photos Due by 6.2.06

BONUS POINTS AVAILABLE:
2 pts. if the ruins are made of stone.
3 pts. if the ruins are ancient (more than 100 years old).

Okay, folks – it’s not stone – so no bonus 2 points there. However, it IS likely over 100 years old. It is of the same era as the Russian Orthodox Church behind it:

That is the Holy Assumption of the Virgin Mary Russian Orthodox Church with the blue onion dome behind the cabin. It was completed and dedicated in 1895 according to?this websites.?No, I have no idea if this cabin is indeed that old, so I will leave it up to Jay to decide if the 3 bonus points for the structure being over 100 years old counts.

You will have to forgive us young-uns. I know that we are not as old as stonehenge or some such in Europe. But, hey, we do with what we have. 😉 Enjoy.
