Monthly Archives:June 2007

well, one thing for sure:

DO NOT drink a tall iced mocha at 5 pm – if you want to sleep that night, that is. 😉

I’m sure I’ll feel tired in a minute – but I dare not even try to go to sleep yet – because the neighbors (who apparently sleep ALL DAY LONG) are outside with their stereo cranked up – the stereo is in the trunk of the wife’s corvette – they’re weird.

Okay – we’re probably all a little weird to someone else, right? Right!

thing 2 – we’re never as free to write (about anything) as other people think we should be – or as we think we should be – no matter what some published author says. heh

What I’ve been working on tonight – instead of thinking about any of the above:

ministhurs

Aren’t they cute? Here’s something to show you just how little they are – look at them next to a child’s size sock.

miniplus

You can read about why I am knitting these tiny socks over at Knitting Passion.

I think I am going to run away to Anchorage Saturday to visit a friend. It has just been THAT kind of week. Hope you all have a wondermous weekend!

Heya . . .

So, like many others out there are doing, I do this other little writing gig for da money. Some do pay per post – and some do, like I do – we just ramble on.

Your mission . . . should you choose to accept it . . .

is to visit us and click on links – and so forth and so on. Just show the love, peoples, show the love.

btw – anyone else watch Hell’s Kitchen tonight? That chef is whacked!

In Chinese communities around the world, eight (8) is considered the most fortuitous of numbers, making it much coveted for addresses, phone numbers and bank accounts, as the Chinese’s and Cantonese’s articulation and pronunciation for eight (ba for Mandarin and paat for Cantonese) sounds similar to the word that signifies ‘prosperity’ (fa for Mandarin and faat for Cantonese).

My dentist is Chinese and his license plate is all 8s. I asked him one time for the reason and he pretty much told me exactly what the above quoted website says.

He reiterated that today – I was at his office giving him and his staff a training from my agency that he had requested – he then told me that in China such a license plate would cost a million dollars. “Here, it’s (practically) free,” he laughed.

And, then I told him about my car – you might remember my posting a photo when my odometer turned 70000 (January 24, 2006). Well, as I was driving to his office to give the training, I just had to pull over because my odometer turned 88888. Yes, I took a picture:

Pretty doggoned cool, huh?

btw – I LOVE my dentist. He is so much fun!

oh, by the way . . . Happy Father’s Day.

the Chins are at it again – hahahahahahahaha

be sure to watch the bloopers.

Well, I’ve been (lady)bugged about writing something about the conference Lessa and I attended.

The five days went by extremely quickly – and yet were very relaxing. There is something to be said for leaving your bed mussy each morning and returning each evening to find it made up and fresh towels in the bathroom.

Sadly, we never got to see the ghost of Heritage Hotel – and the desk clerk seemed non-plussed when I mentioned the story to her. She said “it just depends on who you talk to” and “Looks like you’ve been watching the travel channel.” Well, not for a long time, because now we only have BASIC basic cable and no longer receive the travel channel.

The conference itself: like any conference there were good speakers and not so great speakers. Maybe it is just me, or maybe the subjects just didn’t fit the conference. Actually there was only one real stinker – and Lessa and I BOTH attended that session. We quickly set up the laptops and began reading emails and such – working, I tell you, we were WORKING! Heh. Yeah.

We were trying to be polite by staying, but noticed that several did get up to leave. Ah, well.

Amy Tan was delightful – she was very personable and FUNNY! She was very involved in the conference, too. She attended the other author readings and even commented about one of the poems read at one during her final chat with us all. That was delightful to the poet, although she had not been there to hear the comment. Several of us mentioned it to her later that day – after Amy had already gone, though.

Lessa and I “bonded” – her terminology. 😉 That was fun – but a bit distressing to her, I think. I mean, I am not sure how I would have taken hearing my own mother say some of the things I found myself sharing with Lessa. Poor kid may be traumatized for life – hahahahaha. (yes, I really regret it – NOT!)

It is interesting to find that those pesky twenty years (and three weeks) age difference seem to be shortening up as we (both!) gain years. Very interesting.

I haven’t set up the pictures into flickr yet – but I do have some. They will come in time. (Gotta leave myself SOME room for future writing, right?)
